Capital Bank Reinforces Its Sustainability Commitment through Employee Initiative Inspired by Bani Hamida Heritage

Bringing together creativity, sustainability, and teamwork, Capital Bank organized an interactive environmental art workshop for its employees. Throughout the workshop, employees were able to convert plastic bottle caps into a collaborative piece of artwork inspired by the patterns of Bani Hamida rugs, one of Jordan’s most distinctive cultural heritage symbols.

The workshop was held as part of the “Environmental Art” initiative implemented by the Green Iris association, which aims to transform recyclable materials into artwork that raises environmental awareness and promotes sustainability. Through using materials recycled by the Capital Bank as part of its sustainable practices, employees were given the opportunity to contribute towards a collaborative piece of art created from repurposed materials, with each employee leaving their own unique design on the final piece.

The project aims to bond environmental sustainability and Jordanian cultural heritage together by reimagining the traditional craftsmanship of Bani Hamida rugs through an innovative approach centered on recycling. By doing so, it highlights the importance of implementing sustainable solutions that protect the environment while also showcasing elements of Jordan’s national cultural identity. The completed artwork will be displayed at Capital Bank’s headquarters, presenting a practical example of how used materials can be transformed into works of artistic and cultural value that also carry meaningful messages and help foster a culture of sustainability.

Commenting on the Bank’s participation, Touleen Barto, Chief Marketing and Corporate Communications Officer at Capital Bank, said that the initiative reflects the Bank’s continued commitment to embedding sustainability as a fundamental part of its corporate culture and everyday practices. She noted that sustainability is one of the key pillars of the Bank’s strategy and long-term vision.

Barto also added that the initiative brings together environmental awareness, cultural heritage preservation, and teamwork. She explained that involving employees in activities of this kind helps strengthen a culture of environmental responsibility and moves sustainability beyond abstract goals and into tangible practices that positively benefit society and the environment.

Barto further highlighted that Capital Bank continues to support initiatives that create a positive and lasting impact, raise awareness of environmental issues, and encourage innovation in developing practical solutions to sustainability-related challenges. This is in line with the Bank’s commitment to environmental, social and governance standards and its goals of supporting sustainable development in Jordan.
