Capital Bank Celebrates International Literacy Day with Interactive Educational Experience for Children
To mark the 60th anniversary of International Literacy Day, Capital Bank, in collaboration with Haya Cultural Center, organized an interactive educational event for 50 children aimed at introducing them to the fundamentals of financial literacy and responsible environmental practices.
The initiative was held in line with this year’s International Literacy Day theme, adopted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO): “Literacy for People, Planet and Prosperity.”
This year’s theme reflects the broader meaning of literacy, extending beyond reading and writing to include the knowledge and skills individuals need to make informed decisions, use resources responsibly, and contribute to a more sustainable and prosperous future.
In line with this vision, the event brought together two key pillars of Capital Bank’s corporate social responsibility strategy: promoting financial literacy and encouraging environmental awareness among younger generations.
Capital Bank employees also participated in the event as volunteers and mentors, engaging directly with the children throughout the activities. The program featured a range of interactive experiences combining technology, arts, and culture.
As part of the “Green Smart Piggy Bank” workshop, children learned the basics of saving and managing their allowance while exploring how these concepts can be connected to recycling and the use of environmentally friendly materials.
The program also included an interactive reading session, planetarium shows, and a traditional hakawati storytelling activity. Together, these experiences highlighted how everyday choices can shape both the children’s financial future and the environment around them.
Touleen Barto, EVP - Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at Capital Bank, said the event brings together two core pillars of the Bank’s corporate social responsibility strategy: strengthening financial literacy and supporting environmental sustainability through interactive content that makes these concepts easier for children to understand and apply in their daily lives.
Barto added that the collaboration with Haya Cultural Center, together with the participation of Capital Bank employees as volunteers, helps turn these concepts into a practical learning experience that teaches children the value of saving and the importance of using resources responsibly from an early age.
She also emphasized the importance of building strong community partnerships that can create meaningful and lasting impact.
Capital Bank continues to implement community initiatives in partnership with specialized organizations, helping to strengthen their impact and expand their reach among target groups.
Established in 1976, Haya Cultural Center is a non-profit cultural institution dedicated to developing children’s abilities and nurturing their talents through a wide range of artistic, cultural, and educational programs.
