Capital Bank has announced the sponsorship of the play "Thilal Al Hob" by Jordanian novelist Laila Al Atrash, which was performed during the second edition of the Rum Theatre Festival at the Royal Cultural Center, and organized by the Jordanian Artists Syndicate with support from the Arab Authority for Theatre in Sharjah.
Five performances will compete (Thilal Al Hob, Al Janna Taftah Abwabaha Muta’akhera, Bahar wa Remal, Mascara “from the Media play”, Laila Qamariya, and Faragh Fasel Kamel), for the Arab Authority for Theatre Awards for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Musical Composition and Sound Effects, Best Cinematography, Best Local Scriptwriter, Best Theatrical Director, and the Best Theatrical Performance.
In her play, “Thilal Al Hob”, Al Atrash presents the positive or negative attitude of men that is limited to society’s outlook towards certain women archetypes, varying in culture and status and throughout a number of ages, such as Hind bint Utbah, Zanobia, Mai Ziadah and Jamila of Algeri. The play further tackles the problems of women in conflict and war-zones, concluding with the Iraqi women-journalist martyrs as well as those of Syria and Palestine.
Capital Bank’s sponsorship of the Festival emanated from its realization of the importance of supporting Jordanian artistic talents and the creative cultural movement, and taking them to new regional and international heights, in addition to emphasizing the role of culture and art in shaping and building nations’ awareness-levels.
